Our 15 research areas research in the fields of Information Engineering, Nano – / Microsystems Engineering and Automation Engineering, as well as Technology Didactics. Information Engineering deals with the draft and the further development of systems for transmission of information and information processing. The Nano – / Microsystems Technology covers the areas Nano – / Microsystems, Micromechachnics and photonic nanostructures. Focal points lie on automation technology which build Measurement Technology and Control Technology for the optimisation of industrial processes, regenerative energy production as well as electric mobility.

In doing so both basic research and industry–orientated, applied research are important for us. Our projects are supported by public funders of the German Research Foundation, the Federal Government, the EU and the industry as well. Some of our activities are connected to numerous research facilities (as the Center for Optoelectronics and Photonics Paderborn, the Frauenhofer ENAS and the Heinz Nixdorf Institute) with which we are cooperating. A description of some interesting research topics can be found here.

Numerous prizes and awards prove the quality of our research results. In the year 2009 research areas as visual communications engineering and circuit technology received the NRW–research award and in the year 2011 we have been honoured with the title "an excellent place" within the contest "Country of Ideas" which has been offered as a price by the federal government. We also participate in the technology–network "Intelligent Technical Systems Ostwestfalen-Lippe" (it’s owl) which has been honoured with the top cluster by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

As a comparatively small institute we offer our PhD students and regular students an exciting research environment with an excellent mentoring.

We would like to invite you to get to know us and our research activities better, either by you visiting this website or by you coming to Paderborn.
